Metals are defined as an arrangement of positive ions surrounded by a cloud of delocalized electrons besides ionization and bonding properties along with the metalloids and nonmetals. The three most precious metals are Gold, Silver and Platinum.

  • Gold:
  • It is a yellow shinny metal which is soft and is used in jewelry. To get it harder it is usually combined with alloys such as the copper, zinc and nickel. Malleable in nature makes it easier for the craftsmen to design different pattern on it. Gold is measured in Karats of “K” and the purest gold is of 24K. Usually in manufacturing jewelry 18K is used which has 75% gold and 25% metal alloys and 14K gold which has 58.3% gold and 41.7% other metals. As said the pure gold gives a rich shinning yellow full of luster, whereas, 18K too have the intense yellow color. 14K gold on the other hand has the matte coloring of yellow which does not give the brilliant yellow color.

  • White Gold:
  • It is actually the yellow gold which has been blended with metal such as Palladium or Nickel to get that white hue. White Gold is also very malleable and used for fashioning. The amalgamation with the other metal makes it hard wearing. White Gold is also weight in Karats. White Gold is generally available in 18K which contains 75% Gold and 25% Palladium or Nickel. 14K White Gold contains 58.3% Gold and 41.7% other white metals. Although names as White Gold it possess a tinge of light grey. To give this metal the shinny white lustrous color it is coated with Rhodium which enhances the depth of the color and shine.

  • Platinum:
  • It is one of the scarce metals and is also the rare in comparison to Gold. The Platinum used in the jewelry is on 95% pure and the rest 5% is of other metals. It is one of the hardest metals and so does not need any other metal to give it a hard form. The natural white color of Platinum does not change or fades away and hence acquires a Patina a special sheen to cover up the daily wear. The scarcity of the Platinum has made it the most expensive metal than Gold and of the prized jewelry for engagement and weddings.

  • Silver:
is the most revered and prized metal among the precious metal. This metal is versatile and its usage is also the same implemented in a wide array of industries electronic, medicine and textiles. This gleaming metal is also used in abundance in the jewelry sector. Silver is also soft metal like the Gold and is mixed with alloys like copper to make the metal hard and strong. Silver can be matted, brushed, Sandblasted or oxidized. Silver is not allergic to the sensitive skin and can be worn daily. The most common form available in the market is the Sterling Silver which is 92.5% pure and has reflective qualities and innovative designs. Such Silver jewelry is generally marked as "sterling" or "0.925".
