Learn About Color Diamond
Diamonds the toughest and hardest jewel are composed of carbon and hence generally appear to be colorless. However, due to the formation something around 100m to 200 m beneath the earth surface under extreme heat and temperature it contains varying degree of nitrogen, boron or hydrogen, any of which impart color. The most common color which is available is the yellow to brown color due to the presence of Nitrogen.
Elements giving a Color to the Diamonds along with Carbon…
- The Blue Colored Diamond is caused by the presence of the element Boron (B) which changes the conductivity of the diamonds
- Red, Purple Diamonds, Coated Pink Diamonds & Champagne Diamonds Colored Diamonds are caused by crystal lattice defects during the formation of the diamonds.
- The Treated Yellow Diamonds is caused by the presence of the element Nitrogen (N) which changes the conductivity of the diamonds
- The Green Diamonds and Teal Green Diamonds are caused by exposure to the natural radiation in the earth such as uranium ore.
- "Black" diamonds are not truly black, but rather contain numerous dark inclusions that give the gems their dark appearance.
- White Diamonds while pure or nearly pure white diamonds are transparent and colorless.
